The Kenai Watershed Forum will be holding Summer Camps at Soldotna Creek Park! What better way for your child to spend a summer day than by exploring the banks of Soldotna Creek and searching for aquatic insects, flipping over logs in search of decomposition in action, or playing in a forest pretending to be a predator on the hunt? Each week long session will include games, crafts, lessons, songs, and most importantly lots and lots of fun! The Kenai Watershed Forum is happy to offer fur, fins, feathers, flowers, and fun! Central Peninsula Garden Club May Workshop Weekends 2014

Every Saturday in May, come be apart of the Central Peninsula Garden Club Workshop Weekends. Workshops vary depending on site location. The club’s annual “Workshop Weekends” start the weekend of May 3rd. There will be workshops on a variety of gardening and outdoor topics. There are nineteen different topics that will be discussed. This will be a great chance to learn great gardening techniques and skills, and of course knowledge. Registration is required for all except for on May 17th with the Birding Festival Speaker. This coming May 2014 the Kenai Wildlife Refuge will be holding a Youth Game Warden Camp. If you have a 4th or a 5th grader, you will want to bring them for a fun experience with the outdoors! The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome. Mushers and a team of 16 dogs, of which at least 6 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 9–15 days or more. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams but evolved into today’s highly competitive race. The current fastest winning time record was set in 2011 by John Baker with a time of 8 days, 19 hours, 46 minutes, and 39 seconds.
