Don’t Let Bad Curb Appeal Happen to Your Kenai or Soldotna Home

Your curb appeal says a lot about your Kenai or Soldotna home. It also says a lot about who you are! Having so much outside can lower your property value and detract from nearby homes as well. I’m going to give you some ways to stay out of that “bad curb appeal” category.

Stay in synch with your neighborhood: Sure you have some flair and you like to flaunt that. Well….if you overdo it you’re going to be the sore thumb of the neighborhood. Why not take the money that you would spend on doing extravagant things to the outside of your home and do some repair maintenance, and get some energy efficient upgrades to provide a return on your investment!

Stash your trash: Now, it doesn’t take a professional appraiser to know that a yard so trashed devalues the property. If you have a lot of trash in your front yard you’re also giving an invitation to stray critters to move right on in! Do your neighbors a favor by buying a dumpster.

Choose exterior colors wisely: We understand that you may be an artistic individual, but please think before painting your home! Your exterior should be in harmony with the other homes in the neighborhood. Look around to find a good color before you paint or stain. Your neighbors will definitely thank you!

Hire a landscape designer: If you have difficulties planning on how to landscape your front yard, hire somebody who knows how! A modest investment in hiring a professional landscape artist will pay off big time when it comes time to sell your home.

A place for everything: You may be very proud of your recycling, but nobody wants to see it in your front yard. Instead, hide your bins on the side or the back of your home and put a privacy screen over the top to hide them.

Chained to a bad fence: Chain link fences are reliable, sturdy, and pretty inexpensive. It’s great for bordering your back yard, or the side of your yard, but not the front! You have so many choices of fencing these days, so pick out something that’s nice but still inexpensive!

Ease up on the lawn ornaments: Your front yard should be for well-trimmed shrubs, flowers, and a few decorations. Not for your fetish! Keep your lawn decorations to a minimum. This will also help preserve the value of your home!

Don’t stain your reputation: A little routine maintenance can keep your exterior from being a big eyesore. Make sure to
scrub the stains out and seal them with a top-quality primer before painting over exterior stains.
